Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer is one of my favorite books. It caused me to literally both laugh and cry. It's really beautiful and unique. It weaves a couple story lines together, which can be confusing at first, but comes together at the end. Foer incorporated some creative visual elements with the text that I really love.
Stephen Daldry is directing a film adaptation of this book that is being released on Christmas Day. It will star Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock. I don't think it is possible to create a movie that is as beautiful as this book is to me. So, I'm hoping it's different, but good. At any rate, you should absolutely read this.
